Front mech - Orange Five

I'm just building up my first full suss, a second hand Orange Five frame, and Just want to check a few things about the front mech and chainrings.
I was attempting to fit the front mech last night but I think the big chainring is too big, I have got a crank set with a 48 tetth big ring and the front mech just doesn't seem to fit between the chainring and the swing arm. doe this seem about right? BTW it's 16" frame.
I have a 44 tooth ring I can replace it with so that will give more room but just want to check with 'the experts' on here first. I would post a photo but i'm not sure how to.
The other thing is that I was fancying running a double and bash when I had some more money, but I could remove the big ring and replace it with a bashring now. My middle ring is 36t and the small one is 26t (unless I counted wrong). would this combination mean that i just wouldn't get the really low gears?
Sorry for the long post, any help/advice appreciated.[/img]

48 is too big.
26/36 is a good combo. fit a bash and do it.
Photos see the BR office FAQs"Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

Had the same problem with my Five.
Did your frame come with a front deraileur or have you used your own, if you have used your own and its for example an XT FD-M771 then it wont fit as its too high where it bolts to the frame, you'll need a regular XT FD-M770 Same for SLX you'll need a 660 not a 661, Check Shimano's site..........all

Orange don't recommend fitting anything bigger than a 32 in the middle, as it can rub on the edge of the pivot area. I have 22/34/bash on mine and it rubbed a few times until it had 'bedded in' (worn enough away). A mate has 22/36/bash and his has rubbed significantly.
It used to be in the FAQs section of their website, but I can't see it any more.0 -
How on earth can it rub, it's nowhere near the pivot.
It sounds like the chainline is not wide enough.0 -
Look how close it is when you change gear though.
