Cost Of Living

Has anyone else noticed that cost of living has gone up quite quick since turn of the year? I know we were all told to be in for a hard year etc etc but I'm buying the same amount of food at shops and paying more. On Saturday we bought some basic groceries which normally cost around £20ish and it ended up being £36!!! I even checked the receipt to see if we had been wrongly charged! I came home checked it against a receipt I had in wallet and there were huge price hikes on things.
Bloody petrol...don't get me started on that...rant over
p.s. I'm having a bad day and yes it's money related!!!

Aye.
But it devalues your salary by the same amount, unless your pay is inflation adjusted!
(which is what you're experiencing with everything being more expensive)0 -
There is a 6 pack of MCoys in Sainsbury's at half price - 86p or something.0

Apparently if you work for an oil company you can get petrol tax free. So about 22p/litre.0

Unfortunately due to personal circumstances I need my own transport plus the wife is expecting in a few weeks so bit difficult taking her and baby around on my back or a trailer! There is never redemption, any fool can regret yesterday...

In Asda I regularly buy sausages at £1.75. Suddenly they're at the 'roll back' price of £1.95. They seem to have simultaneously raised the price to £2.25 and reduced it claiming it's a bargain! Shysters! :evil:A fanatic is one who can’t change his mind and won’t change the subject - Churchill0

Any savings you have. Inflation is going to murder the value of any money you have in any standard savings account.0 -

standard deal for 'special' is, must be sold at x for 28 days in one of your stores, lower price and it's on sale. legal shysters (but shysters just the same).
The best way to get people to forget prices are up would be to give you a 'deal' on an inflated one.FCN 120 -
In the B+Q winter sale the price of a Black and Decker workmate when from £75->£100 day before sale, then 15% off to get it to £85. Now it's back to it's usual price of 99.95.

Noticed the rises in Tesco tonight. Cotton woolt hat was 75p is now £1. Liquid soap is over £3 but was about £2.60. Expect record profits from TescoM.Rushton0

Food inflation has been astronomical for the last 2 years.
We are on a seriously tight budget this year to bring our finances into line with where they should be and grocery shopping is seriously tough.
What is really annoying me at this exact moment in time is totally unrelated though. Right now the mrs is using up stack loads of the colour ink I bought for our home printer because the DWP where she works has banned colour printing and everybody is moaning how bland the notice boards are.
Not my f***ing problem. I was so tempted to completely lie on my tax self assessment at the weekend, but like a good little boy I didn't. Regretting it now that I have discovered I'm funding the DWP printing.0 -
um is it just me or has everyone been living under a rock?....
VAT Increase anyone?0 -
2.5% on VAT makes around a £7 on £300 of stuff.
Where as the rant was £20 going to £36
Remember haulage companies don't get tax rebates on fuel, nor do coach companies or train companies. So if you want to dodge fuel tax the best way to do it while using fuel is to link up loads of "local" buses.
By the time you get 100 miles from home you would have been quicker walking it.Do Nellyphants count?

I bought a watch to replace a stolen one just before Xmas.I was back in Selfridge's at the weekend and it's gone up £400.
The VAT increase accounts for only £95 of that.
Inflation is huge, time to ramp up the interest rates. I'm sick of funding borrowers.0 -
Thought there wasn't vat on food anyway? There is never redemption, any fool can regret yesterday...

It's not just the VAT.A combination of fuel rises/vat and a chance to get an increase I suspect. For those who complain about the petrol, our govt. is loving it as the revenue rises proportionallyM.Rushton0

Basic commodities have risen sharply (again) in recent months
When the price of wheat rises (due to poor harvests, flooding and increased demand) this is felt throughout the food sector, not just flour and bread but in meat and dairy also as it is used for food stuffs.
Cotton, rice and oil have all risen sharply too.
I could post a link but as I know I'm correct I don't have to.“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -
Oh and there's no VAT on most of the food you buy. Check your receipt, there's usually an asterix or 'v' beside those items with VAT applied
Google 'Marks & Spencer Tea Cakes VAT' if you're interested“New York has the haircuts, London has the trousers, but Belfast has the reason!0 -

Do you use 3rd party inks? If not, then it's a good deal cheaper and just the same more or less. Also why does not everybody put some money into the ink - if they say no, then not for you to take the cost really. Just my £0.02.0 -
