There's been a c0ck up with a bike that i've ordered and it comes with campag chorus groupset. by way of compensation they have offered me £200 cashback or a free upgrade to Dura Ace which is 200g lighter...
thoughts?

they are both excellent groupsets. personally all things being equal i would take the cash.
i doubt if you will notice 200gms on more or less static parts. rims maybe but not other stuff.

plus the hassle of sending the bike back etc. depends how gutted you are of course, or if all your tools fit shimano or your other bikes are shimano and you want to swap wheels.
  • thats the thing. my other bike is ultegra and i have ultegra and DA wheelsets. they havent sent the bike out yet so no hassle involved...

Considering you've got Ultegra on your other bike, I'd go stick with Shimano and go for the Dura Ace. It'll facilitate swapping parts between bikes and minimise the number of tools you'll need.

Well it's no brainer if you want to swap wheels plus it depends how often you swap bikes and if you feel happy changing how you shift gear from bike to bike.
  • go with dura ace

    +1 fpr the DA upgrade.

I'd want similar groupsets on both bikes.

Although I'm a Campag man through and through +1 on the above

stick with what your hands know and enjoy, i bought a new (2nd hand old team bike) bike 2 weeks ago and it had microshift shifters on it. they were swapped within a week for some 105s. my hands hated the feel, and my muscle memory didnt like the shift mechanic.

I prefer Campag but I would have the Dura Ace. I have one bike Campag and one Shimano and its getting to be a pain in the a**e. I wish they were both Campag.

The chorus! Then the £200 and the jap stuff on ebay can go towards getting campagnolo on the other bike. Simples.
It’s the most beautiful sport in the world but it’s governed by ***ts who have turned it into a crock of ****.
  • Chorus is equivalent to Dura Ace so go with what you prefer - if you already have a Shimano bike then sticking with Shimano might be wise. There isn't a huge issue as far as cassettes are concerned, they are both interchangeable with minimum hassle.

The point about spares etc is a good one, if you break a mech, having a spare of the same manufacturer is a bonus.

"Chorus is equivalent to Dura Ace" - curious. How, why? One's cheaper and heavier than the other. How are they equivalents?
  • Where do you get the info that Dura Ace as 200g lighter than chorus?

Everywhere seems to have Chorus as slightly lighter:

I'd go for Chorus + £200 personally but if you have another Shimano bike and like it i'd be tempted to go for DA.

So I assume you ordered Dura-ace in the first place yeh? Then that's what you should go for or you'll only regret it later. You need the same on both bikes as everyone else says

I forgot that you already had the wheelset porno-boi. ;)

Go with Shimano and keep your groupsets manufacturers the same! It makes it a lot easier!

I'm very pro Campag, but am also a realist.

If you intend to stay with Shimano, then go with Shimano, however if you have tried Campag and like it, then you won't regret it, personally Chorus is a half way house between Ultegra and DA, brilliant bit of kit and of course it will be 11 speed, parts are easy to obtain and you become part of an elite group of riders who appreciate quality 8)

So the decision is quite easy, if you intend to stay with Shimano, then the DA is the only option, but if you are swayed then you will never regret Campag.
