  • I was trying to get on the site from about 7:45pm (CET), but it was already down at that point.

Finally the message came up about suspended registration about 2 hours later.

Thought I was going to miss registration initially as last year the 12,000 places were gone in 38 minutes.

I really think the organisers could have planned this a bit better because they were actively warning people to be quick, so they should have been prepared.

I also suspect that the 50,000 requests per minute involved many people trying to refresher their browser, with each request to the server registering. Totally manic and I'm looking forward to the updated information on the site today.

    Regards,

    Peter

    peterst6906,

Agreed - a rather poor show indeed. It doesn't appear to have been well planned at all.

I was hitting the refresh key like a rat in a Skinner box to no avail. I too am interested to discover how they will deal with the demand...

    Good luck getting a place.

The 6th form college my daughter goes to used to allocate their places on a first come first served basis until one year, all places went within 7 minutes of them opening the application site.

    Now they:
    - have an application window of a few days or a week
    - have some lightweight preferential scoring system (siblings etc)
    - have a ballot

A ballot seems the only sensible way to counter the huge telepresence effect of the interwebbynet, maybe giving preference points in this case for previous entrants, members of the Dutch Cycling federation etc etc.

As a by the way - a time limit followed by a ballot is how they'll be selling tickets for the Olympics.

    Well,

They re-opened registration at 2.20pm today (when many of us were at work, I suspect). I just logged on at 5.30pm and all the places are gone.....

    What a balls up!
