Broke me bike

What do you call the bit on a cantilever brake that connects the brake cable proper to the cable that runs between the brakes themselves?

I broke it tonight

Need a replacement for my Tricross and don't actually what the component is called, which kind of stymies any hope getting a replacement.

Help?

That's a straddle cable. It's pretty useless if the straddle cable hanger's broken. ;)

HTF did you break the straddle hanger?
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

    stronger than I look, me

The bolt had siezed; so when I was trying to release it, I managed to twist the hanger so much it snapped

sorry kieran but it sounds like the bikes had it, a write-off, scrap, not worth the paper it's printed on etc. I'll take the whole thing off your hands for £20 delivered, who knows I may be able to salvage some parts off it.

    ...

If you arn't in a rush I'm sure I have one of those on one of my breaker bikes you could have FOC, will know this evening, will be cheap and heavy (but strong) pressed steel.

Thanks Simon :) I've actually found an MTB bike shop in the local village where I work (!) and have fired off an email to see if they have anything in stock, so I'll let you know how I get on.

Simon - I got hold of an old style carrier from a back street bike shop chappie (£1 in the charity jar), fitted and working. Thanks for the very kind offer though!

I've even found the part number for the original bit as well now :D Tektro 1246A, but can I find anyone in the UK that stocks one? Nope.
