Isle of Skye routes

Hi - I'd love some help.
Can anyone suggest some good routes in North Skye?
I'm there for the last week of February and am looking for a couple of rides anywhere betwen 20-50 miles, as many hills (up or down) as you like and trying to decide whether to take the road or the mountain bike!
I'll be based out of Uig and wan't to ride from there with OS Landranger in hand!
Oh, if you can arrange for it not to be raining as well that would be great!
Thanks!

What I can arrange is no midges for that time of year.....
Personally I would take the mountain bike, as the roads could be icy, it may be best bet even if you cycle on the road.
You could always pop over to Lochmaddy fot some Western Isles cycling."Encyclopaedia is a fetish for very small bicycles"0 -
Thanks!
Yes - after a bit more reserach the mountain bike it is.
With map in hand I'll just get out and ride whatever is legal an dhope I don't break myself too far from Uig!0 -
I can recommend the path through the Quiraing - pretty short but pretty awesome as well ! From the high point on the Uig - Brogaig road head north under the cliffs and on towards the Prison, the Needle and the Table.
You do need to do a little 'scrambling' at one point, but it's easy enough. I dropped down to Loch Hasco from here and out on to the road at Dunans. You could head back to Uig by going north around the top of the island, or south to Brogaig and heading due west.
The path south along Trotternish Ridge from the high point on the Uig - Brogaig road looks just as rideable but I've never ventured there. On the OS Landranger there's a road east up Glen Uig to Balnaknock, with a path that carries on to the summit of Trotternish Ridge at Bealach a Mhoramhain. I've often wondered if you could ride this as a loop by continuing north along the ridge to the high point on the road. Never done it but if you're feeling adventurous..........................
There's also an in and out starting at Orbost due south of Dunvegan. It takes you along the shore to Idrigill Point, above three sea stacks called MacLeods Maidens. Again the scenery is immense, but I've only done this one in the summer - it could be a bit wet just now ! This path does continue on to Ramasaig as a loop but I'm told it deteriorates pretty quickly from the point as it turns north west. I've always done it as an in / out.0
