Recommended UK sportive ride in August 2011?

Hi all,
Australian here, going to be travelling to the UK later this year - specifically from around 27 June -- 25 August.
My bike is coming with me, so I thought it might be good to take part in a sportive style ride. Is there anything that anyone would recommend?
I'll be based in the Somerset area (as that's where my girlfriend's parents live), so near there would be best. I see there is a ride called 'Bristol/Bath to London' but its unfortunately a few days too late for me to take part!
Cheers in advance,
Dan.

Not a sportive but a lot of fun, probably running on the 13th of August this year.0 -
Is that date confirmed Vorsprung? Presumed it would clash with the Dartmoor Classic again this year, but if they're pushing it back to August I may well add it to my list. AS mate has done it twice and really enjoyed it, even with brutal weather through Cheddar Gorge!0

Hi Dan
It's going to be a bit of a drive, but check out the Tour of the Peak on August 14th. You'll see some great scenery in the Peak District and enjoy a massive test of the legs too, with tough climbs like Winnat's Pass and the 6 mile long drag up the Cat and Fiddle. On top of that it's the best run sportive I have entered with no queuing on the day and plenty of support on the road. It has moved from October to August for 2011, so hopefully more sun and less mist!
What ever you choose, enjoy your stay.0 -
New Forest Rattler dude... really good event. Gimme a wave if you do it... I'll be doing the photos!

Thanks very much for the replies, much appreciated. I will look into each of them and work out what I can do.
Vorsprung -- that night ride sounds amazing but one of the reasons I want to do a sportive style ride is to see the countryside!!
Has anyone done this Mendips Sportive?

Dan - been on Cyclosport as they have updated their postcode search. Type in your postcode and search for events from 25,50,100 and 200 miles away from your postcode. You can then sort it by distance and date. Works for me.0
