If it's not specifically a cap you're after though for its peak, I wear a Buff underneath - only a tenner or so, and very versatile. It keeps my head warm, and can also be pulled down like a balaclava to keep the rest of my face warm.0

I use the Altura headband about £12 which sorted out my cold ears. They do a skull cap as well which should be just the ticket!Boardman FS Pro 2010

I've got numerous Buffs, which are great for keeping the wind out unless it's really cold. A campag headband (not sure which one, but is't black with red stitching), and a cotton cap.
Have a look here: http://www.alwaysriding.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=145_9&call=true
I've got the Waltz cotton cap.
To be honest, I find that a buff is as good as anything, and if it's really cold, get the fleece version.Science adjusts it’s beliefs based on what’s observed.

I normally have the opposite problem and like to let the heat out.
For those really cold days -7C to -11C I use a thin balaclava I bought whilst snowboarding. The rest of the time I'm a +1 for the Buff for my ears.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -
All you need is a good skull cap, various makes, different prices. Good ones are from Polaris, ground effect baked beanie and Assos, although of course Assos will cost you, but imo is the best one.0

I find the Craft Skull Hat excellent http://www.wiggle.co.uk/craft-pro-zero-windstopper-skull-hat
The front half is Gore Windstopper and the back half is just wooly, so lets you head breath nicely. It's designed to go under a helmet and is one of those 'once it's on you forget it's there' products - it just does it's job very well.
Reasonably priced too.0 -

Icebreaker Marino Wool skull cap for me. Works a treat.0

Another +1 for buff.0

Endure BaaBaa merino wool £16 from eBay, nice and warm and does not get smelly.0

Suggest Aldi Crane Sports running skull cap. Not too thick and fits under a hemet OK. Mine cost less than a fiver.0
-
Endura Skull cap. Less than a tenner (just) and comes in two sizes.0

thanks alot everyone whos posted real great help there off out now to by a buff under a tenner cant be bad and like the fact you can make it a mask if really cold once again thanks0

I've got a sealskins scull cap for my baldy head, fits fine and warm enough. Its got holes in for the ears which you don't really need, supposed to make you hear better but the wind whistling through the holes makes a right racket. Don't know it this is common in scull caps or not.Pinno, מלך אידיוט וחרא מכונאי0

If you want something with a peak (ie like a traditional cycling cap), check out the Sugoi Wallaroo 290 cap - merino wool (so warm, thin and non-smelly) and very comfortable (fits comfortably under my helmet).
Got one at the start of the winter and it has become a firm favourite alongside my Gore Phantom, PRO gloves and NW winter boots - no excuse not to go out now!!0 -
I agree... Buffs rock!
I use one as a headband that can convert into a cap, and another thin one as a neck warmer doubling as a face mask when it's really cold. The great thing is that you can breathe through them as they're so thin.0 -
either a thin skull cap from aldi i bought a few years ago, a pearl izumi cap or a buff, depends on my mood or the temp really, and what I can find0

Another vote for the Endiura BaaBaa merino skull cap. Warm, breethable and non-smelly. Covers head and ears and also keeps sweat out of eyes. One of those small yet brilliant items of kit that you really appreciate.0

Sealskinz very good indeed.0

By FAR the best winter hat. And brilliant for running. Even wearable casually as well.My blog: http://www.roubaixcycling.cc (kit reviews and other musings)

I've got a very thin HH beanie made out of their 'Dry' base layer material that works very well - but I had it from running, so if I was starting afresh I might buy something more cycling specific?0

dhb Windtex skull cap - about £15, if memory serves.
Very good, keeps the wind off and the chill out, don't have to adjust my helmet to wear it, don't get so hot that I sweat with it on (well, not any more than normal).
Highly recommended...0
