Just went out for a quick ride and my bike is feeling odd. i noticed that my front wheel is not fully tight, there's a tiny bit of movement sideways. Ive tried tightening but i cant tighten anymore, any suggestions?
Thanks

  • Perhaps the axle nuts need to be tightened?
  • Its a quick release and i cant get it any tighter, any ideas?

The QR goes through the axle, there should be nuts on either side of the axle that hold the cones/bearings in place.
If these are loose you could get the Incredible Hulk to tighten the QR and there will still be some play..

Take the wheel off, remove the QR and see if there's any sideways play on the axle itself

Sounds like loose cones on the bearings to me, or if you have cartridge bearings, they're probably worn.

If it is a cone adjustment required, remember you want some play with the wheel off bike (or QR loose), which then gets taken up by the QR being tightened. Zero bearing play with wheel off bike (or QR loose) = increased friction and bearing damage when QR tightened.
