Anyone got a Canyon frame with the black raw CF finish? On their website it looks very patchy and like cheap moulded plastic. Is it like this in the 'flesh' or is it just the way the camera has picked up the CF?
TIA

CF is moulded plastic - that's what it looks like before a decorative weave layer is put on.
Carlsberg don't make cycle clothing, but if they did it would probably still not be as good as Assos

I am the proud owner of one of they raw frames, an' yes it does look a bit err, nasty!
But I've never been one to let aesthics get in the way ( of value).
And I think mine is maybe a bit worse, as it's one from "Canyon's outlet", as in, unsuitable for full retail price.

    Hi
You have just put the wind up me as I have a Canyon 9.0 SLX in raw CF black finish on the way bought from the outlet !! Are you not happy with your bike ? I am a bit concerned what the condition of the bike will be in. The description was " Bike with hardly visible signs of wear and tear " .
I may look into getting it painted if I'm not happy with the finish.

It's a strange finish but no different from any other UD finish frame. It looks different when it catches the light.

It's not to everyone's tastes but i like it. A tad industrial but the whole frame is more function over form IMO. I definitely prefer it to the 'canyon.com' white and black paint job.

Don't fret! Mine was labeled exactly the same.
Why choose one that is "soiled"? - To save a few dollars, no ?
An maybe a little late to be "concerned". ?

It's more about how it rides, is it not.
Oh,BTW I'm real happy with mine, it flies!

cheers guys, I'm not put off with the raw finish as it would look more 'industrial' but thinking about a Ultimate CF 7.0 with Athena and prefer the black frame with the silver groupset. If going for a Ultimate CF 9.0 with Chorus then I'd prefer the white frameset with the black groupset.
My mate has a Boardman and they aren't painted but they do have a clearcoat over the raw CF so you see the natural finish although it can make it look like the clearcoat is lifting. What one likes others may not eh.
My wife just gave the go ahead to get one as she feels I need to spend money on myself for once and she is going to try and pay what she can towards it too - she is amazing, no wonder we've been together over 20 years and still as happy as when we first go together :D

    Ok, thanks !
Were there any scratches etc on yours whenit arrived ?
I cant wait to try it out. I live in a mountainous area so it should be a great climbing bike at 6,25kgs without pedals.

It is superb up the hills. Especially out the saddle. You realise then how solid the front end is.

  • looks alright to me :D but hard to tell exact finish from a single picture, CF looks different from different angles and lighting conditions.
my favourite CF finish is on campag record cranks/ fsa do something similar on some of their cranks. its not a uniform weave pattern and with a high gross finish looks amazing when it catches the light
