Cable rub causing frame wear !!!!!

Well it's a world of ice here this weekend, far to slippy for riding (unless you have those studded tyres) si I thought I'd treat the bike to a full clean up (not that it's had much use this winter).
I have had a right good look at the areas of cable rub and noticed there is a groove worn into the aluminium downtube of Orange Five.
What can I do to prevent this from worsening?
I have heard of helicopter tape and read variouse opinions about its effectiveness and expense.
What is the best long term solution to the problem?

iv used this kind of tpe on my new bike, to cover up all the cable rub spots. Also, on my old bike, i noticed the same as you, so i covered it up with, "bike shireld" which came with pre cut patches. You could also try the lizard skins patches.0

any frame protection tape."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."
Parktools :?:SheldonBrown0 -
Yeah just been looking online at what's available.....The leather ones from lizard skin look like they might be best as they are flexible enough to go in and around the groove.

Might just phone my LBS and see if they have any in stock.http://neilfatmanonabike.pinkbike.com/album/My-On-One/

You can get some 3M helicopter tape and cut it to the desired shape
Another one is Jagwire cable top protectors (50mm piece of plastic which fits round the cable) but if you use these remember to try and keep them clean!0 -
as stated, lots of tape and patches around to prevent this. Need to catch it early0

Or, pay nothing and use a little know-how to reroute the cables to loop around the headtube instead.0

My Rize is terrible for cable rub and if I put tape everywhere on the frame where the cables rub it would look a right dog's breakfast.
I got some draught excluder tape from B&Q - it's thin, dense self-adhesive foam rubber - and wrapped it round the cables where they would touch the frame /forks. It's not indestructable but it stops the rub and is very discrete0 -

you can always get some carbon patches and use them on the areas affected, i use these

guess cable wear is more of a problem for full sussers as the cables would move everytime the rear compresses...Carbon 456... http://www.pinkbike.com/photo/8854609/0 -
I use grip tape, comes in white or black (at the very least). It is textured tape, that is used on yachts and also steps. Not the one that looks like sandpaper...
It is quite thick and stiff, but with a hairdryer it will conform to any shape (even welds) perfectly and adhere incredibly well. You cut small shaped patches of it.Giant Reign X10 -
You may want to check your cable routing, as I have a Five, and there is no cable to frame contact anywhere.0
