Cleaning the cyclocross bike today and need a new set of rear pads pretty soon and was looking for some suggestions having been out of this game for 11 years.

What are your views on fitting cartridge pads - is it worth it in the long or am I better off just buying one piece pads?

Definitely cartridge pads - the stiffer housing mean they don't flex and therefore braking feels more direct. Easier to change pads too.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • I was looking at Kool Stop Tectonic pads/cartridges but on Wiggle someone says they fit shorty 4 but wiggles say they are only for v brakes - who is right.

A while since I had some Shorty 4s (old style) but there are only 2-types of canti-brake fitting - tradtional plain stud or threaded type(vee-type) - if they're held on by an Allen-key nut then any vee-type pad holder should fit.

  • I thought so - just wanted to check before I ordered them.

    Cheers for the advice.
