Will be taking delivery of custom columbus life steel frame in about a month, going to put Campag Athena alloy groupset on it with Campag Neutron wheels - the frame is going to be blue and white but the wheels have some stickers on them in red, they are not the main stickers , they just say symetric front/asymetric rear, what is the best way to remove them without marking the rims?

  • I've found peeling them off, then using a normal pencil eraser on the nasty scummy stuff tends to get it all off. If that doesn't work, use some acetone and very fine wire wool to get the last of it off.

Good luck on the build, sounds like a lovely bike!
  • WD-40 will remove any adhesive from vinyl decals. If they are a cellulose based decal, then acetone or cellulose thinners should 'dissolve' them
Recipe: shave legs sparingly, rub in embrocation and drizzle with freshly squeezed baby oil.
  • Nail varnish remover.

Whaddya mean you don't have any? You shave your legs don't you? :D

 What ??? Maybe on polished rims but never ever on any coated surfaces except maybe on the brakesurface and Nail varnish remover is also no go . Best use WD-40 and a bit of ellbowgrease and dont forget to clean/degrease the brakesurface afterwards.

Use a hairdryer first to warm it up and soften the glue.

    +1

It works on stickers on car paint so I'd be pretty happy that it would work fine on carbon or ali. An alternative is boiling water - just expect to get through a few kettles-worth.

Wouldn't use solvents if you can at all help it.

  • Just took the stickers off my Fulcrum Quattros. I found an old trick I learned in my 1st job as an electrical salesman very effective. Peel off the stickers slowly by hand then spray remaining adhesive with a small amount furniture polish, leave for 30 seconds to a minute then rub off with old rag.
