I think 'Stereo Love (feat. Velvet)' by Pj, would be an excellent theme tune for this year's TDF television coverage. Anyone agree or have any other suggestions?

The Drugs Don't Work by The Verve?
It’s the most beautiful sport in the world but it’s governed by ***ts who have turned it into a crock of ****.

Obviously Kraftwerk did the song 'Tour de France', but if you mean the classic Channel 4 theme from the 80s as heard here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IMjb6sU5Mg, then that wasn't Kraftwerk, it was done by Pete Shelley of the Buzzcocks.

Without doubt my favourite theme from television of all time.

    Same!

Can still see the room in my old house when i was about 5 or 6, watching the highlights with my dad in the middle of summer.

It's amazing how a piece of music can bring that back!

Awful awful awful the Pete Shelley music and the current ITV4 music are really ... awful. The current music is worse by a tyre's width. I'd prefer something by Merzbow to either of these.

Takes me back a bit - late 80s and early 90s I suppose - I had no idea what was going on half the time (on the TDF coverage) but it just seemed like something really cool. Started the near obsession......... :)

Anyway, you need some new age guff during the Tour. John Tesh and Yanni features heavily in the 'merican CBS coverage back in the day

No wonder we laugh at the Americans ! Playing gladiator type music over cycling commentary is cringeworthy.

Can anyone remember when they played PIANO music over the old tour video's ???

Kraftwerk is the ONLY tour tune 1983 version.

Me too, definitely an acquired taste.
  • You can laugh at Americans wanting Gladiator type soundtrack music over cycling videos but I'll take the ol' American Flyers theme song any day.

Good to see you getting worked up about something important.
Gasping - but somehow still alive !
  • current itv4 music is class

what's the music they always used to play in the 90's during the climbs?
  • hey, what a responsive bunch! I'm going to have to go through all these tunes now and see if any will do for my cycling i-pod. :)
  • Sideways on the topic itself but the whole Kraftwerk Tour de France CD has cycling tunes, Kraftwerk's live CD has most of these.

And I think some of the versions are even better.

    On disk 1

    3. Tour de France Etape 1 - Riga, Olimpiska Hall
    4. Chrono - Riga, Olimpiska Hall
    5. Tour De France Etape 2 - Riga, Olimpiska Hall
    6. Vitamin - Moskwa, Lushniki
    7. Tour De France - Paris, Le Grand Rex

    Disk 2

    10. Elektro Kardiogramm - Tallinn, Exhibition Hall

Which I believe they are making close to their signature song.

You missed off the final 'e]' when quoting my post. Good effort though.

Disc 2 also has 'Aerodynamic' which is probably my favourite. Again, the live version slightly pips the TDF Soundtracks version.
  • +1 I've got Minimum Maximum too - apart from the slightly disappointing Autobahn its my fave Kraftwerk CD (yes CD - I'm old fashioned like that!)

Or as I have been, technologically behind the times also since my budget is limited.....anyway, thanks to the above poster Monty Zoncalon also for pointing out the additional song I missed "Aero dynamik." Interesting excursion into the music is a whole lot of Kraftwerk. And I relistened to Autobahn last night, I don't know how the original goes as much though I know that was a big hit and big seller for them.
  • A couple of years ago ITV used 'Map of the Problematique' by Muse (I know, I know) at the end of one of their daily TDF programmes, and I always thought it worked quite well with the images.
  • A few years ago Eurosport used Telepopmusik's "Breathe" on their highlights programme (end credits bit - horses/sunflowers/odd people in costumes etc)

    Simply perfect
