Best road tyres?

Any one recommend a good road tyre 700x23. I quite fancy a continental gator, so anyone recommend them?
Please help, new to this game but I want to upgrade from a hybrid to a road bike. Can any one recommend a good road bike@£700?

Hi mate.
Put 'tyres' into the search function and you'll come up with a fair few results.
You'll find the usual subjects of Conti GP4000S, Michelin Pro 3 Race etc.
I've got Conti Gatorskins on my winter bike and will be putting the hardshell versions on my other bike.
Haven't done enough miles on them yet but chose them based on posts on here.0 -
Michelin Krylion Carbons in winter and for training, Michelin Pro 3 Grip for racing. Quite fancy trying some of the Veloflex open tubs though.More problems but still living....0

It depends to a degree what type of tyre you want, but at 23c, I guess a 'go fast, do most stuff, train / sportive' type thing? If so, Krylions, Gators and ProRace3s will do very well, but some tyres will cut more easily than others on poor road surfaces.
I've got into Vittoria Rubino Pros this last year - puncture proof so far, and don't cut as much as the Conti GP4000 that they replaced. They seem quite fast too (and lots of nice colours...) HTH
£700 road bike - lots of choice, but if you're not after a pure race one, have a look at something like a Secteur from Specialized or one of the Giant sportive type ones - they're a bit less stretched out and may be an easier transition. There are plenty of others, but these would be a good start. The most important thing will be to try some out though.|> Save money on purchases from CycleStore, Wiggle, Merlin, Evans, Chain Reaction, Halfords and more - click here (or PM me with questions)0 -

I run the Conti Grand Prix 4000s on my Lemond..must admit, I like them !0

+1 for the krylions, fast rolling and good puncture protection.Pinno, מלך אידיוט וחרא מכונאי0

I'm a big fan of Vittoria after trying various other tyres. Open Corsa CX for good days/racing and Open Paves for everything else. Most other tyres feel like hosepipes in comparison. Will be trying veloflex once my corsas are worn out though...0

For general year-round riding, winter-summer, rain or shine, Conti 4 Season GPs are pretty hard to beat.0

Have only used conti gators, recently got hardshells.I've never punctured in two and a half years of riding on them on rural commutes/training rides.0

Do you really notice a big difference with these over Pro 3's or Gp4000's, worth trying them ?
I have always used Michelin Pro's or Pro Grip on my best bike . Always felt pretty good but not the most p resistant ones ( for lightweight tyres ), out there I must say.. I have a set of GP4000's to try but everytime I need to change I keep sticking another Pro 3 on !
I don't do any racing - just club runs, sportives & long rides on my own etc.. But if these Vittoria's ( the Pave one I guess ), feel like a step up from Pro3's maybe I should try them out ...
I do use Vittoria tubes though always thought they were a good deal from Parkers when buying 10 or 20 of em..0 -

Went for the continental gator hard shell, the Vittoria pro looked nice but a little flash! used my Wiggle voucher. Here's hoping for punctureless miles.
