Hi, Me and a friend went camping in the mournes on mtb's for 4 days and i had atleast 10 punctures. I was wondering if there was any thick tubes, tyres or anythin, any ideas anyone?

It's all a trade off. From tyre pressures to weight.0

I very rarely get punctures but I use a fairly heavy tyre (Bontrager 2.2" XR4) inflated to about 30psi. My old XC bike with 2.0" continental mountain kings gets loads of pinch flats and punctures.
Also depends where you ride. I went to exmoor & ran out of patched after picking up loads of thorns.Transition Patrol - viewtopic.php?f=10017&t=130702350 -

When you repair a puncture do you normally check the tyre to see if the thorn/flint or whatever is still there?
Makes a big difference to reoccurring punctures.0 -
+1 one on tubeless is the 100% fix.
It takes twice as long to fix the tube, but you get 1% of the original punctures, so no issue to me.
Also +1 on what DIY said, made that mistake a few times too.
Ghetto tubeless is the way forward. Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?0 -
You just know where you are with tubes.... I bet most tubless riders going a long way from home will carry a tube?0

Think you've got to be a bit dim not to really. But that's just pragmatism. Tubeless isn't punctureproof but they're rare compared to tubes, I've had 1 puncture that wouldn't seal and a few holes in new tyres that needed patches to seal but out of the amount of miles I've done (and the amount of solid rim strikes!) that's impressive I reckon.Uncompromising extremist0 -

Yeah you know you are in a situation that is unreliable that could flat at any time.
Same way you know where you are with tubeless,
You are almost guaranteed to be puncture free.
You should carry a spare tube with either solution. My suggestion is that you are not only more likely to use the spare tube when running tubes, but you are also more likely to write off both the tube and the spare tube before you puncture the tubeless once.
Tubeless is great.
You puncture so rarely that, although you should bring one with you, you will probably not use your repair kit.Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?0 -
Tubeless is overhyped. Way overhyped. Your mileage may vary of course, but I found no real advantage in terms of amount of punctures, when compared with tubes.0
