Ass Clatter

Guys,
when you're cycling out of the saddle, is it normal for your ass to bash against the tip of the saddle (only a little bit mind) - or does this suggest something wrong with my technique/fit?
(Reason I ask is cause I saw a picture of Lance Armstrong today, in which his ass looked almost a mile in front of the saddle when he was climbing...)

It isn't good and frankly a bit disturbing.0

Sounds odd, you should be high enough up to be clear of the saddle, fore/aft position would depend on the gradient really0

Depends on the size of the ass0

Does sound odd. I only stand on steep hills and then I am well forward with hands on the hoods and arse well clear of the saddle.0

Sounds like you saddle is way too high.0

The only situation where I've ever needed to use this technique is on extremely steep, but slippery conditions - watch Michele Bartoli climbing the Muur during RvV in 1996 - he's trying to get the power down but needs to keep his weight over the back wheel to stop it sliping. Sometimes useful in CX too when it's steep and muddy - but for general riding out the saddle, it employs a lot of residual effort and is therefore less efficient.Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..0

is your bike five sizes too small?0

When i teach spin - that is about the right height for your saddle - not bashing - just tapping mind you - but spin bikes arent as stretched out as road bikes. Is the bike too short for you ?0
