Not sure if this is the best place to ask this so feel free to move it.

Which is the better Instructors course MIAS or BFC Level 2 coach ?
The MIAS looks more practical based and the BCF more theory and admin stuff.

Thanks

  • depends what you want to do?
The smbla quali tends to be the prefered one for guiding purposes.
CTC also do a good one
It is all mixed up and unregulated atm so I tend to think you need to know what any employer needs or be sure about what you want/need from any of the providers.

    Very good courses; http://www.cyclewildscotland.co.uk/courses.htm

BCF Level 2 coach is a totally different thing from guiding which the MIAS/CTC/SMBLA qualis are about

Waht exactly do you want/need a quali for?
  • Its a bit of a lottery at the moment.

The CTC/OCT course is really just run by one bloke and no one seems to ask for it anymore. I was a bit sceptical of how long it would be around for.

The MIAS looked really dated and shonky to me. You also need a BMC ML (walking qualification) for it to be useful.

I plumped for the SMBLA scheme which is a mix of guiding and instruction. So far its been useful. You get professional indemnity insurance through BC as part of it.

But as above, it depends on what you want it for. The BC coach scheme could be good route for just instructing.
