Just been given an iPhone by a mate who is a compulsive upgrader. Its a bit scratched and the camera doesnt focus and there is no sim card but fully functional otherwise. Anyone ever had an iphone unlocked, I have heard horror stories of phones that wont switch off and cant be connected to the web or else apple will send an assasin round to stab you with an icepick.

Need a good legal or legal ish unlocking download that wont screw it up. Anyone got any reccomendations.

Also whats the best sim card deals at the moment.

I do believe a smack with a 10lb sledge hammer might sort it out for you. If that fails, try a 12lb one...
  • Best bet is to Jailbreak the phone, you can then unlock fairly easily.

You'll need to research the best way to jailbreak, google is your bestest friend in the whole wide world evar :-)
  • The phone company can get it unlocked, I got mine off some one who was with O2 and they unlocked it for free. I am on Orange and it is working just fine.
Orange I think charge about £10 to unlock it.
But basically ask him to speak with his mobile provider and see if thy will unlock it for him.

Jailbraking the iPhone only allows you to run non Apple approved apps and not make the phone telco agnostic

What you need to do to unlock it is use a utility like Yellowsnow to change the lower source of firmware where the carrier settings (O2/Voda/T-Mobile etc) are stored.
It's tricky but can be done, I've done it twice, but as usual, best done on the Mac opposed to a PC
Do some Googling you'll be amazed at what you can turn up
