Hi All

Happy New Year to everyone.

I've got a 1996 Specialized Hardrock ready to be converted to singlespeed. I need advice on what parts to get?

Disc or Vs?
Which hub?
Which Crank?

All serious responses are welcome.

get a SS kit and a tensioner and use what you have.

you don't need new brakes, hubs or cranks. As Nicklouse says, just get a singlespeed kit (replaces the 9 speed cassette), remove derailleurs etc and your big and granny rings up front and fit a tensioner.

  • It's a fairly simple conversion to do, mainly stripping your frame of gears and putting single chainring/sprocket combo on!

I've done it using stuff from Charlie the BikeMonger (http://www.charliethebikemonger.com/). I think he still has videos on there that show you what to do, and he's a great chap who is most helpful!
