Hello,

I have just recieved my planet x sl.

I've yet to test it due to the bad weather, however when I sat on it and cliped in I noticed the crank arms/bottom bracket kind of flex under the pressure.

this is the first road bike I've had

is this kind of flex normal? will it flex when peddling hard (say out of the saddle)?

Yep, can confirm there is a bit of flex down at the BB. I rode a SL Pro last year.
    - also my 1st road bike.
TBH I never worried about it, even when hammering out of the saddle.
I like to think these things have been tested by people better than me!
It's a bit of a niggle, but still a sweet ride,( for the cash!)
    Enjoy.

I'd be very surprised if the BB was flexing just from sitting on the bike and applying a little pressure.
    More problems but still living....
  • I'd have thought the whole bike flexes - but the bit you see move is the b/b as your stationary and your eyes pick that up relative to the floor
Has the head wind picked up or the tail wind dropped off???

A lot of frame flex is actually due to wheel/tyre flex. A degree of flex is actually a good thing, otherwise ride comfort would be compromised
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..

You wont notice it when riding.

In the LBS the othe week the mechanic did the exact same to a Cervelo S2 an the BB seemed to flex. I asked him about it and turns out it's not frame flex but wheel flex. Dont know I'd it's true but is beems reason able because the BB area was pretty huge. Did the same to my PX SL and the deflection was less thus making wheel flex seem more likely because I doubt that the SL is stiffer than the S2.

Yes it makes me laugh when the resident authority turns up and decides to test the BB deflection by using his foot!

I did not say that my idea is the definitive answer (shown by saying "I don't know if it's true"), I'm just suggesting a reason for the flex which seems plausible. Therefore I'm not "the resident authority".

just had another go and it definitely seems like the whole crank moves

It tends to be mostly tyre flex, as it varies significantly with tyre pressure in my experience.
