Greetings peeps!
Decided to jump back on a bike @ the tender age of 30 after 10 years without riding
After reading loads of threads on here and elsewhere and driven by my C2W scheme i've deciced on a Boardman HT pro 2010 (if anyone is interested!!)....should be picking it up this week!
From actually checking it out in store and reading reviews, the seat, tyres and grips are all getting swapped but what tyres? Seat and grips are sorted.....
Im just over 10.5 stone and my riding will probably involve a short daily commute, a couple of short 2 hour evening rides and a weekend epic hopefully (so a cross between a bit of road, but mainly country lanes and singletrack), so looking for something that will function all round if poss?

ether way you have my 2 recommendations,
the contis are a nice tuff semi slick with a fast rolling centre with just enough side knobs for tow path style work.
the maxxis are one of my personal favourite off road tyres. it rolls fast, grips well in all conditions including snow and ice and isnt to heavy.
The one thing i will say is that which ever tyres you go for get ones with a folding bead as these will be much lighter and therefore much faster.

+1 on two sets of tyres, or if you have the cash wheels.
A tyre that is good off road will be destroyed on tarmac, a tarmac tyre will suck off road.Why would I care about 150g of bike weight, I just ate 400g of cookies while reading this?0 -
yer.. forgot to add that.
2 sets of wheels is the best idea if you can afford to.
if you were to get another set of wheels i think i would put slicks on the current set of wheels and get an upgraded set of wheels (mavic, fulcrum) for off road riding.0 -

The maxxis look good I was kinda being a bit retarded thinking there would be an all rounder that might suffice but tbh the amount of road riding will be minimal....my commute involves a few hundred metres on tarmac then drops on to a canal path all the way to work pretty much so am lucky....then evening and weekend rides will solely be offroad!
One last thing though...whats the relevance of the width ? ive seen 1.8 to 2.6 and just got a bit blagged as to what id need.....im guessing thinner is better for sloppy mud cutting?

If my commute was longer id definately consider but would take more time to swap the wheels than get to work @ present lol......still might have to get another set for summer riding though?0 -
just tried to find it but I can't... there was a thread a few days/week ago which had all the information in as to why 2 set of wheels (one for commuting and one for MTB'ing on a MTB) is a bit pointless and can cause problems.
