i have sky hd and the bloody thing keeps crashing, i have to reeboot it at least twice a day.
after ringing the help centre 3 times this week, i have told them to shove it, they offered to come and replace my dodgy one with a less dodgy refurbed one..... yeah right!
i had the sky engineer out 5 times in 4 days last year cos of the old refurbed units.
now dont get me wrong, when it works, it works well. but you never know when its going to stop and god help you if you are recording anything.
i am an electronics engineer by trade, so they soon stopped trying to fob me off with the excuses about overheating and poor ventilation caused by my house.

arrrgh!..... just missed 2 goals during the footie tonight.

anyone else had this pap?

No skyHD here, but the Sky+ box is a steaming pile of dog turd.

Surely a "less dodgy refurb one" is better than what you have now.
  • not after the last 4 dodgy refurbed ones i had to put up with. even the engineer gave me no assurances they would work. i have just asked the help centre to sort something out, the response was, well, we can try a full reboot and wipe the lot..... no, i have a sky plus box for a reason, its got recorded stuff on.
we can send an engineer round to replace your box..... no, i have a sky plus box for a reason.......
can i have a brand spanking fully working one?
    NO! :(

i think i will be cancelling the 60 quid a month pile of poo !

not being funny.but if i refurb a bike i cannot sell it as new, why should they?

Well, they're not selling a refurb as new. They're giving you a refurb as a refurb.

Sounds to me like you've been offered a few options, but you're too much of a jackass to take any of them.
Here's another thought, if you're such a great electronics engineer, fix it your god damned self.

    Very true.

If they had said "Here take a new one" and it was a refurbed one then be angry. Their telling you it's refurbed so can't blame them for saying it.
  • Our sky HD has always been perfect, no freezing or anything.

    Hope that helps you.

  • Sky is just sh!t....

Actually I don't watch enought TV or sports to make it worthwhile. My GF's parents have it though and they only watch freeview channels anyways! Its all either repeats or crap.

You do get Mythbusters, Dexter, Walking dead, and new(er) episodes of south park on Sky though, which you can't get on freeview.
  • I once had 13 Sky+ boxes replaced in the space of 3 months from Sky, once, the engineer accidentally scratched my brand new £400 VHS video recorder doing a swap-over, I had to claim against Sky for that.

My current box is now out of warranty and cuts off if I leave it on recording an HD channel from BBC. I simply just ensure that I only put anything in the longterm planner on Standard def and also leave it on ITV when I go to bed.

When I go on holiday, I setup my second room box to record my favourites that are unmissable.

It's lot of faffing about but I'd still be lost without Sky+ and Sky HD, had Virgin once and that is a steaming pile of keech.

my sky plus played up about 6 weeks ago, it just wouldn't play at all. no sound, then sound but no pictures, then nothing. i checked all the usual suspects, i turned it off and on again, checked the scart leads etc and nothing.

i called them and they did a reset for me, not telling me it'll wipe all my recorded stuff (i should have known, i know) i was mighty pissed off that all my stuff was erased and it still didn't work. they told me they'd send an engineer out and that the earliest they could do it was 4 days later, within that time it magically started working again..and touch wood, it's been fine since :?

I'm not paying £20 a month to watch 4 tv programmes (3 of which I wouldn't watch anyways!)

I wouldn't expect you to, but I really miss those on freeview.

Dexter especially - b*stards hooked me on that before they shifted it. Only have freeview, so started watching it on the net, but my laptop screen is tiny.

Sky HD works fine for me too, standard box or the new 1TB box.

Bit iffy at my parents house with the box crashing but they do have slightly dodgy electricity.
