Okay so I don't need it BUT ....
I can get a new Dura Ace 7800 crankset 53/39 170mm for £154 to go with my NOS 7800 front derailleur.
At the moment I have Shimano 5600 105 50/34 172.5mm on the "upgrade" bike, in perfect almost new condition.
Do I ignore the 7800 and keep what I have?
Do I buy it and swap/sell the 105?
Do I go to bed and pretend I didn't see the offer?
Arhhhhh!

I actually don't like compacts, esp on long rides. Just to make things worse theres a 53/42 on offer as well.

the 7800 DA c/set is very nice and super stiff. If you can stomach the high gearing then I'd go for that.Facts are meaningless, you can use facts to prove anything that's remotely true! - Homer0

You want to get the correct length firstly, then worry about compact v standard.0

Having used both standard and triple chainsets in the past I'm finding the compact on my Boardman a revelation, however I suppose if you've stronger legs than me (and most people do!) then the Dura-ace would be nice.
On the cranklength issue - I've got 170, 172.5 and 175's on my various road and mountain bikes and struggle to notice any difference between them.0
