These Shimano 7850 Carbon Laminates are held in pretty high regard and Planet-X have Fulcrum Racing 3s at £275. I've had no bother with my 2008 model R3s from new.0

Hey I'm thinking of doing the same thing myself! CAAD 9 Ultegra too. I changed from the Aksiums it came with to a pair of Ultegra tubeless for about £230 - they are Ok, fairly light and comfortable but they don't seem to stiff. I have been looking at getting some handbuilt wheels. There seem to be some great wheels around your budget on wheelsmith or Roadace components. I can't decide between IRD rims and Royce hubs or Ambrosio Nemesis and going tubular for yearround commuting and sportives etc. At 13 stone I want something strong and stiff to make the most of the CAAD. I suppose it's back to the old handbuilt or factory bling at around the £500 mark. - just remember you can't really see much of your wheels when you're riding and unless you are a featherweight and do lots of climbing strong and true is going to be better. Apparently Royce hubs are bombproof. Tubulars are also supposed to be a great ride and fairly easy to stick on with tape nowdays though a hassle when punctured. For factory built how about Fulcrum racing ones, they look a bit good! Sorry about the ramble! It would be good to know what you opt for.0

I've put some handbuilts on mine (which is finished but i need to get some pics tomorrow and possibly another saddle) Halo hubs (supa drive rear which is INSANE with it's 120-point-screaming-engagement-schnenigans) laced to halo mercury rims 16 spoke radial on the front and 24 spoke radial ndside and 3x drive side on the rear. Pretty light and nippy, look amazing and surprisingly stiff given the spoke count.0

I just can't decide, dura ace are top of my list at the moment but I can't ignore fulcrum 1's. Being in cornwall it's not easy to try before you buy. I will have to buy from recommendation's and reviews
What do you think?0 -
The RS80s are pretty good and well worth the £300 you can get them online for (I paid £390 from my LBS and still think they are a good deal). That would leave you loads of change for a nice cassette (so that you can keep your current cassette/wheel combo for turbo/winter use, etc.), some nice tyres and entry to a few sportives.
The RS80s come with the Dura-ace hub and some nice carbon laminate rims, more importantly they look very bling. Pimp my ride.0
