Whilst wishing this cold weather away and longing for dry trails, I decided that this coming summer I'd try a wider tyre on the front of my Trance X4.

Punted for a folding 26 x 2.35" Nevegal in Stick-E compound and found this bargain:

Not only that, if you buy before 12 tonight you get an extra 10% off (and it's free delivery) - so it's cost me £20.25.

That's a bargain in my book, but what's the betting I won't be able to use it until June!!

Why did you have to go and post that? I've been tempted by a 2.1 nev stick e and they're only £17.61. But I've already bought 4 tyres in the last couple of weeks because they were on offer....

Why sticky compound for summer? Surely that's a winter tyre?

I'd heard the stick-e's are good for pushing hard generally, so I thought it might do for a front tyre for trail centre special occasions in the better weather. Wouldn't use it all the time, wear rate apparently high.

I'm not sure I'd use excessively soft compounds through the winter- tend to put in a lot of grindy miles. Any experience with it? I might have to give it a go on the roots up front.

I'm running the 2.1 on the front of one of my bikes and it's been absolutely fine as a winter tyre. I really like them but having just bought two more high rollers and realising just how many other tyres are lying around I'd better not get any more!!

Sure I got mine a lot cheaper than that but it was in a clearance sale I think, can't find them that cheap again :-(

  • Anyone know if there is much difference between the 'Performance', 'Evo' and 'Evo Snakeskin' versions of this tyre?

Snakeskin presumably offers more sidewall protection... Apart from that??

    Cheers :?

Racing Ralph for the summer, awesomely fast and surprisingly grippy on rock too.

Great for getting the back end loose in the corners too

Performance is a harder single compound and heavier casing. EVO is a thinner lighter casing, usually with the triple nano compound/Pace Star/etc compound that's lighter but has fragile sidewalls, snakeskin has a tougher sidewall but the same lighter compound, dual defence has tougher sidewalls and a breaker compound under the tread.

I burst the side walls of the old Racing Ralph evos on pine cones, but the second hand dual defence ones I bought recently have so far coped with Environment Agency gorse clearance and the aftermath of new years eve.
Visit Clacton during the School holidays - it's like a never ending freak show.

    Who are you calling inbred?
  • Thanks Spongtastic...

Sounds like the Double Defence is worth a shot tho they don't have any Nobbys in that version... So its probably the Performance or Snakeskin versions...

    Now... 2.4 or 2.25 :?
