I'm after a set of speakers like this but with a smaller sized sub than 300mm max diameter.

OK. Good look with that.0

Load of crap. The sub should be SUB bass. Which means the satellites have to be full range.
Otherwise what you technically have is two top-halves of a hifi speaker, and one low end, but no actual sub.
Sub woofers are big because of the job they hve to do.0 -
That Aego M combo is an outstanding piece of kit and worth every penny. I'm sat here listening to the Doors through them at the moment. Bought them a few years back and they're probably the best piece of kit I've ever bought. Outstanding quality reproduction with an excellent soundstage for what they are and can frighten you with loudness. You could also kill someone with those sats if you were to throw them at someone's head.
If I were you I'd make the hole / shelf / whatever bigger for the sub0 -
Failing that the Logitech Z323 Speaker System always gets good reviews and I think has a smaller sub (see their site) and Creative 2.1 offerings usually get good feedback. I actually like their Gigaworks set up.0

The Aego M would be my first choice but I intend to take them on holiday so need them to fit in a case.0 -

If you want great sound that you can take on holiday in a case surely a decent pair of cans is the better option?0

he's not wrong. Get to a Creative retailer and have a listen to the Gigaworks T40 see if you like.0
