Brian, I've entered this one mate
Hopefully we all get in. If my entry is confirmed I'll need to get my hands on a compact chainset. Already got a 12-28 cassette sorted. And no more sleeping in the back of vans the night before - will get a b&B sorted :P Is George entering?0 -

Fathead - Nice to hear from you. Lost your email address last year when my old PC died. George gets an automatic entry into this years Fred as he gave up his place last year due to sciatica. Hopefully I'll get in as well and hoping to beat my time of 7:28 last year and George usually spurs me on.
B&B is the way to go and a hearty meal the night before. Fingers crossed we get in. It would be nice to start all together. I'm doing the lakeland loop this year again as preparation.
Me and George doing the marmotte this year also.
Got out the other day and cycled up to Caldercruix, Bathgate etc and it was good to get some miles in.Brian B.0 -

I had a free entry this year (as in guarranteed, not no money) as I had to back out last year due to a bout of pneumonia. Unfortunately my son is graduating the day before the FWC so counldn't make it. Gook luck to whomever got my entry. I will try and do the Four Seasons later in the year. Will really mis Wilf's grub though.I have only two things to say to that; Bo***cks0

Can anyone recommend a good campsite in the area? Taking the van down and making a long weekend of it with the family.0
-
For coniston fellrace (hosted from the same sports centre) you can get away with parking on the hard standing/ and some camping on grass and sometimes adjacent field - there's normally portaloos for the event. Don't know if this meets family requirements though (theres an outside tap on the side of the sports centre)0

Coniston Hall campsite is close to the start and much easier to get back to after finishing!! I thought Hawkshead Hill before AND after the ride was a bit too much!!dyslexia rules KO0

Arg - how is everyones training going?
I am up to about 55 mile long ride (build build slowly etc) - longstone edge and winnats last weekend in the slush.
Still on my winter/ commuting bike - which means so far comfy saddle, so not been getting used to nice bike not so comfy saddle.
Commuter is also a tourer so has a triple (can ride winnats sitting down!!) - don't know what to do about gearing on the big day....0 -
Done 114 miles on the 13th, have suffered since. Think I over done it!0

Getting out for one long ride at the weekends for the last couple of months 3 to 4 and a half hours. Will aim to get at least one century a month in March and April. Also doing shorter more intense stuff on turbo and the road for the TT season.
Lookingf forward to it and it won't be long before we're checking the ultra long range weather forecast for early May 8)0 -
FH : When you do a century - how hilly will it be/ how hard will you ride (ie pace compared to target pace?)
HB: you can keep your trashed thighs then! - you recovering?
Anyone tried a training weekend, or camp?? I was considering this
http://horscategorietours.blogspot.com/ ... rimer.html
a bike weekend out of Bretton in the peak. 2 x 100k rides over the weekend.
Anyone tried anything similar?? anyone know the benefits of doing 2 longish rides two days on??0
