The chain on my Trek 2200 has come to the end of it's life and I need to replace it, however know nothing about chains and what one to get!

It is 9 speed on the back and has 105 on the front and Tiagra on the back.

Thanks!

9sp chain, Shimano, SRAM or KMC

Personally I'd go for SRAM or KMC, used both no problems, and they far easier to join-up with their 'missing link' than Shimano are with their silly joining pin.

You'll need a chain tool (aka chain splitter or breaker), cut chain to same no. Links as your existing chain.

You might find the new chain jumps on the rear cogs, if the old one was very worn and wore the cassette, in which case you'll also need a new cassette - Shimano HG50 will be fine, same tooth-count as what you have now

I love my KMC chains esp the X10 SL model, stupid expensive but very bling and they really last, there are cheaper ones which are just as good if a little heavier but nothing that will really make a difference.

No more orange chains the morning after a wet commute home.

Thanks for the replies. Cassette was changed around 8 months ago, so hopefully that will still be ok. I just need a chain to keep me going until I get a new bike in the next few months, so would the SRAM PC951 be suitable or would I be better getting a SRAM PC971 or PC991? Don't want to spend a fortune as it only needs to keep me going for a few months.
