Can anybody give me an exact location of the Simpson memorial in Harworth, and also an address for the Sports n Social club where there is a small museum for him?

Has anybody been in the museum? We did Ventoux last summer in his name, and are gonna have a night over in Harworth - hopefully a few pints in the club then a ride out on the Sunday.

Cheers

    Have a look at http://www.hdcc.co.uk/about.html

Memorial stone is on Scrooby Road, as is social club.

I would stay in Bawtry rather than Harworth, if you are stopping over.

His grave is in Harworth Cemetry on Tickhill Rd, I think.

Dinnington RC organise an annual Tom Simpson Memorial ride each year. This year it's on Feb 27th. It's usually well attended with getting on for 200 turning up. The start/finish is Harworth Sports Club. Might be worth considering if you fancy paying your respects & a ride also?

As Simon recommends, stay in Bawtry. The Crown is really good & has a great restaurant. There are a few decent watering holes in Bawtry too.

The museum is more of a large glass display case. It has one of his bikes in there, trophies & jerseys etc. It doesn't really do the man justice.

Cheers for the replies, will defo consider that memorial ride weekend! any idea how long the ride is?

We will be going down in a camper, any decent campsites or carparks they wont mind us kipping over in?

Aye will have a pint in the social club and have a look at the glass display while we are in.

Ride is about 70miles. Regards mooring your camper, there is a campsite in Austerfield. This is about 5 miles from Harworth.

Its a good ride & if you've got the legs for it the 1st group away have traditionally tried ripping each others legs off! There's usually a few of the local pro's along too, stirring it up.
