I've been reading the Best Guitar Riffs...ever! thread and I think it right that my favourite genre of music is represented on here, so, lets have it. What do you think is the best hip-hop song of all time.
For me, I'm really feeling Thieves In The Night by Black Star.
Great beats, conscious lyrics, great flow. Pity so few people know it.
Whats yours?
(BTW, may anyone who suggests Lil Wayne or similar rubbish get regular and inconvenient visits from the PF)

Quite simply, there isn't any decent hip hop song.
I can listen to just about every musical taste, but gansta rap, hip-hop, garage, disco and jungle do my swede in.I ride a bike. Doesn't make me green or a tree hugger. I drive a car too.0 -

There is more to rap than gangsta rap. That is just a sub-section within the genre of rap.

Not sure if this counts but surely Rapper's Delight by the Sugar Hill Gang. In my mind that really started the whole scene off over here in Europe.

seems a few people on this thread are confuddled by the differentiation between hip hop and rap.
I think krs-one explained it best when he said "rap is something you do, hip hop is something you live"
basically rap is the action of reciting words using a variety of rhyming patterns and various other techniques and can technically be applied to many different musical genres it's not a defining aspect of the music in the same way you don't typically call songs with a guitar in 'guitar music' it's just a musical device.
hip hop is the overall culture/genre so everything from the early stuff up to the chart toppers today is technically hip hop. how faithful it is to the roots is a matter of opinion however.
and getting back on topic... I don't believe it's possible to pick a single 'best' song so here's some tracks I still listen to as much today as I did when they came out...
