Giro Ionos vs Giro Xen sizing

I'd like to get a Giro Ionis Livestrong (the support for cancer research and the ventillation being a couple of reasons) - trouble is, Inverness isn't full of shops selling the Ionis. Has anybody either got (or tried) a Giro Xen AND a Giro Ionis who could comment on fit? The Xen fits me like a glove but I'd need to order the Ionis on-line (I can always return it, I guess - just be better to know beforehand.

I've not tried those two specifically, but from the few Giro helmets I have owned, I've found the sizing and shape to be fairly consistent. Probably worth ordering one to give it a try.0

Cool - thx - I've only had the one Giro but I'd imagine they use the same fit "pattern"ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0

Get a tape measure and measure your noggin. Then just follow the Ionos sizing guide. It;s very accurate/0

Absolutely - my head's long front-to-back rather than wide so lots of lids rock and have pressure points (Spesh helmets in particular). The Xen is utterly perfect. My Bell was OK though not as good.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0

I used to have a xen that fitted my head perfectly but I found the ionos to be a bit tighter around the temple.
I think you've really got to try and find a shop so you can check it out properly.
I've never felt comfortable buying a helmet online unless it was an exact replacement for something I knew fitted me.0 -
Actually, I'm in Glasgow next week whilst my son has chemo. Can anyone recommend a bike shop at the Yorkhill end of town that might do an Ionis?ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0

Can't see an Ionis on their website, but they do stock Giro - may be worth giving them a wee call first.

I think Dales Cycles also stocks Giro, they are 5 minutes from Alpine, Dobbies Loan.0 -
Oh....and good luck with the treatment for the little one, its a good hospital (worked there in between Uni) - thoughts are with you.0

Cool - thanks, Markyboy! My LBS here is Alpine but relatively small and don't have the Ionis so I'll give Glasgow a call.
And thank you. The staff at Yorkhill are brilliant and the Teenage Cancer Trust ward he's on is fantastic - great facility (great charity) - and the nurses are wonderful: so good with the kids.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -

I have the Ionos (large). I previously had a Monza (also large).
Both fitted in exactly the same way.
I went for the Ionos because of the ventilation and have no regrets. It's actually my 2nd Ionos, having trashed the first when hitting the deck at 38mph. I would not have bought a 2nd if I hadn't been pleased with its performance.
Whle I admire your resolve to support Livestrong I think I would personally put the extra money directly to the Trust that your son is being cared for by - local charitable trusts depend on donations.
Best wishes to your son and you. There's no such thing as too old.0 -

Cool - that's good to know.
Believe me, I'm doing loads for TCT - including getting my whole race series (motor racing) sponsoring TCT and all having their cars marked up with TCT logos + plus a bunch of other fundraising stuff. I need a good ventillated lid, the colours are good, I'd like to support Livestrong and also raise that awareness too.
Thanks you - we appreciate all the kind thoughts of everybody - I draw a lot of strength from it to haul us through the hard bits.ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0 -
Tried an Ionos at Evan whilst I'm at the hospital in Glasgow.
Glad I did as I really didn't find it very comfortable and it tended to rock side-to-sideROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0
