This seems a not-unusual occurrence.
Went into the Cardiff branch of Tredz a couple of days ago. Thought I’d browze a bit just to see all the nice stuff, maybe see something tempting.
The windows displayed banners shouting SALE. Inside though, virtually no sale happening at all. A couple of bikes marked down a bit, but that was it. Where’s the sale?
Well no biggy of course, but why do shops do that? Big signs stating one thing, when inside the shop it’s a different story. Annoying buggers.

Sounds like a perfect example of poor retailing. They've achieved the most difficult part of getting you to enter their shop and yet they have left you with a bad feeling about the experience. Major fail.
Basically, the retailer has 3 fundamental types of sale. Genuine stock clearance, genuine reductions to try and increase cashflow or a chance to tap into a consumer spending spree. The smart retailer should be combining all three at this time of year. People have money and they are willing to spend. Now is the best possible time to off load old stock (these are where the real bargains are). Simultaneously a combination of modest discounts on continuing stock and some clever deals should see a combination of happy retailers and consumers alike.0
