XTR M970 Shifter bent clamp

Hi,

Just noticed that I've managed to bend the clamp on the left hand shifter. Does anyone know whether this can be replaced or do I have to replace the whole shifter (and it seems the usual stores only sell the right hand by itself)?

Or even how I can go about attempting to un-bend it? I've had a quick look and cant see any easy way of taking the clamp off - do I have to take the whole shifter apart to do this?

BTW it's the stand alone clamp as I have Avid brake levers.

Cheers

Leyton

If it is working as it is don't try to bend it back!
Use it until you can afford a relacement shifter. I bent my xtr m970 shifter while on a downhill trip to the alps. It was uncomfortable to use so went to bend it back and it instantly snapped. They do not sell the clamp on it's own you have to buy the whole thing. Keep a look out on ebay, if you find a set let me know as i still need to replace mine and i need a right hand one, it could work out nice!

It's a spare part, you don't have to replace the whole shifter. Your LBS will be able to order one.
  • or if your feeling flush you could go for the Yumeya replacement!!!

Went to my local bike shop they pulled up the diagram of the shifter and it had no part number, they said that means it is not sold separately by shimano. The only one you can get is the Yumeya one, and i'm not parting with £50 for a clamp.

If you know different and where i can find out the part number please let me know.

    Cheers.
  • looking on the shimano tech docs seems they dont list it as a part number!
looks like your best bet would be ebay for a used or broken shifter to get the clamp from??
unless! you run hope tech or avid brakes when you can use a matchmaker clamp??

Apologies then, I was thinking I'd seen it as a spare. Poor form on Shimano's part I say. Trawl the 'Bay for a knackered shifter.
  • Thanks for the replies
Unfortunately it doesn't look as though there is a matchmaker for avid/shimano :(
So it looks like I'll be on the lookout for a "donor" on ebay.
  • am sure avid do one for use on avid brakes/shimano shifters?? will have a nose,

*it appears its ony avid/sram combo's and not shimano, sorry!
