  • Deuchney woods downhill, and Kinnoull Hill in Perth are largely pretty rideable if your lad is fair on a bike. Some of the trails have got a few inches of snow on them, but we've been riding there every few days since the bad weather arrived just to keep us sane. And when you do overcook it into the deep stuff, the landing is nice and soft!

I know Carron Valley is shut - but what about the trails in Garadbhan Forest, Drymen; Mugdock Country Park above Milngavie; or Torwood and Plean paths in your home town? They might be snowed up at the moment but a big thaw is on.

Up around Aviemore most of the trails are in the annoying stage where they're no good on a bike and not great for cross country skis either :-( Went skiing today it was just too icy to be any fun.

Mugdock was ok in the trees today but still a horrible mix of ice and slush in the more open bits. That was in the morning though so probably improved a bit over the day

Hoping Mugdock will be clear for the weekend.
Sun rises next Tuesday partially eclipsed and will be viewing it from the Gun Emplacements, hopefully clear trails and clear sky.......

I've decided it's going to be a while before the trails around Aviemore are a) ridable or b) skiable. So I dusted down the tourer and had a very pleasant ride up the ski road instead. Didn't go all the way to the top, will leave that for nicer weather :-)

Up Mugdock yesterday morning to try and see partially eclipsed sunrise. Total cloud cover and rain, shame. Riding conditions were not very good, a lot of thick, hard ice about on the main paths, we had a few fallers, and some sections were just not rideable. The Carglas woods are better off from the main path, but still quite frozen, though not as much ice, just frozen mud and leaves.

As the thaw kicks in, I am concious that it will be extremely muddy and cut up real bad, so would rather give it time to dry out.
