I've got permission to go bike shopping
but could do with some alternative suggestions. to the Specialized.
A bit of background info: I'm 47 and a reasonably serious roadie. I got rid of my mountain bike in the summer, a 1999 Trek 7000 and am looking for a replacement. Price wise at just over a grand (if I can find a 19") the Specialized looks lovely. It'll be used mainly for pissing about on but I might be tempted to come out of a 20 retirement and do the occasional race.
Any serious alternative suggestion would be appreciated as I don't keep up with developments in the off road world at all.

Dont be set on the 19". Not all brands make the 19" frames. Look into the Giant XTC's if you have a chance. think they are made in 18" and 20". Like I said don't be hell bent on the 19". MTB's arnt like road bikes. The death of the bike begins with its start
