I've got permission to go bike shopping :D but could do with some alternative suggestions. to the Specialized.

A bit of background info: I'm 47 and a reasonably serious roadie. I got rid of my mountain bike in the summer, a 1999 Trek 7000 and am looking for a replacement. Price wise at just over a grand (if I can find a 19") the Specialized looks lovely. It'll be used mainly for pissing about on but I might be tempted to come out of a 20 retirement and do the occasional race.

Any serious alternative suggestion would be appreciated as I don't keep up with developments in the off road world at all.

  • Dont be set on the 19". Not all brands make the 19" frames. Look into the Giant XTC's if you have a chance. think they are made in 18" and 20". Like I said don't be hell bent on the 19". MTB's arnt like road bikes.

Sizes differ between brands - only thing to do is try it out first.
