If your chain keeps coming off you need one.

Or your chain is too long. Never found that I need one on my Trance.
A bash ring is definately worth fitting, I used to catch my big chain ring a lot because of the low bottom bracket. Since I fitted a bashring & ditched the big ring I haven't had any clearance issues.

I would recomend one of these, fits straight on using the original bolts and looks great and is half the price of most others.

I find my large chainring makes a good bashring. As long as you keep your leg out of the way.

Thats what I thought, but a big ring will bend fairly easily and a bash ring is smalley, giving extra ground clearance.
I have got a big chain ring scar on my right ankle from a big ring as well, at the time I was more worried about the broken ribs and arm though :?

Ordered,no major chain issues, apart from when hitting some of the bigger rocky drops/steps etc still undecided about which bash
  • They help keep clattery chains quiet too which is nice - mine always made alot of noise on the descents even with a well fitted chain and high gears - shealthy quiet now :d

The answer to this question perhaps should have been no,apart from the bb thread looking a bit sorry and a trip to the lbs needed to sort out, i think there are some clearance problems around the suspension linkage and pivot points, barely a gap there, ('12 thou)

unless i do some mods to the plate of the chain device, has any one fitted one of these to a trance ? or similar Giant fs ?
