I have a triple up front and never use the small ring, if i change from a 12/27 cassette to a 11/28 cassette would I notice much difference in my gearing ie trying to a bit of use from the small cog and give me a bigger gear in the big cog.

My personal opinion: you'll notice the 11 over the 12. You won't notice the 28 over the 27.

Down side would be bigger gaps between gears. Up side would be very little. No point in doing it.

In reality you will probably never use the 11 tooth, and the 28, as opposed to the 27, won't make much difference.
  • A quick and dirty calculation of your gear inches (assuming standard type triple = 30t low front cog) means they'll only be a 1 inch difference in the low range. I doubt you'll notice it unless you're hypersensitive.
