Well, no one is twisting your arm to buy from them and I'm sure your friend had good intentions and wants you to use it for something you need or want. So why the sour attitude?

  • Sorry I don't comment on these forums too often and assumed adults would give opinions on them. I have explained why I am unhappy with Wiggle and given evidence to back it up. Your views on my SOUR Attitude show a lack of understanding, and as for Ebineazer scrooge, sorry - sign of the beast billy no mates.

Any views from experience as opposed to character assasinations?

Ya got money from a friend who wanted you be able to buy something. It's called a gift.
You can throw it away, and don't use it, or use it in the method it was intended. Buy something.
It's win / win for you. Why worry about Wiggle prices? It's free for you? Right? Plus the person who gave it to you would want you to use it. If you really can't somehow force yourself to buy from Wiggle, at the very least give it to someone who will.

I'll give you £15 for the voucher.

Hmmm, lets see now, you have a free £25 to spend. Your friend gave you a gift and you are so ungrateful that you moan about it.

Whether Wiggle is more expensive than you like, you can still have £25 of items free from them

Ebineezer Scrooge was someone who did not appreciate Christmas and the gifts people gave. You appear to be very ungrateful at people for buying you a gift.
    A perfect match I think

Wiggle have been quite expensive for years, so I'm not sure why you are so surprised.

  • I know what you mean, it frustrating to spend money on overpriced stuff when you know you can get much better value elsewhere, even if it was a gift.

At the end of the day, your friend will have bought it with the best intentions so you may as well spend it on something you want, even if it's a " rip off ".
  • At least wiggle dont send you stuff thats used, 2nd hand, already opened, been out several times before, unlike a nasty "reaction" i had recently!

Your attitude kinda stinks which is why people are giving you a hard time. You come across rather spoilt. For instance, I didn't get any presents at all this year...

As for Wiggle - there is lots of stuff on sale at the moment. Expand your search for items.
Sell the vouchers and shop elsewhere. Buy something on sale and sell THAT. Then shop elsewhere. Save them for when you absolutely need them.

I've bought loads of stuff from Wiggle in the past because they DID have the best price. But hey - the best deals are usually on eBay these days.

Was this your 5th or 50th birthday present?

Give it to a charity or a deserving friend and shop elsewhere with your own money.

The Arione at JE James has manganese rails, that's why it is so cheap.
Shiny Bikes charge 4 quid delivery.
Fudge charge 4 quid delivery for pedals so in reality it's only £11 difference once you use the £5 voucher for over £50.
Apart from that I agree, Wiggle are rarely the cheapest, but sometimes they are the same price as others and there is always the £5 voucher.

Agree they aren't the guaranteed bargain they once were but I've never had an issue with them, found their deliveries and processing of orders to be first class and you can still find a good deal with them. If they're competitive they're still my mail order vendor of choice.

That said, assuming it doesn't turn out to be a April fool, I ordered a set of 7850 50mm clinchers for £799.99 from Planet-X. Wiggle - with my Plantinum membership discount - were £995. Now I'm pretty loyal when it comes to retailers and brands but not to the tune of £200.

OP - I think you should just ignore these self-righteous people - it's almost like their love for wiggle is blind. I suggest some of you read the OP again?

its nothing to do with it being Wiggle. The replies would be the same if it had been a Halfords voucher or any other store.

Its the attitude towards the gift not the store that people are commenting on

CRC took over from Wiggle in 2008 -ish as being the no. 1 for bargains + massive choice. That's what I felt at least.

I must say I'm somewhat surprised by the rough ride being given to the OP.
My reading of his post leads me to think that his point is about Wiggle's pricing - the post title is "Wiggle too expensive" - not whether or not his friend has been generous or given him a dud gift. The OP makes the point that he feels bad using his friend's "hard-earned" to buy uncompetitively priced items.
Isn't the topic Wiggle's pricing, rather than an ethical debate about the gift voucher?
  • Wiggle are not "rubbish" just expensive for some items. In fact they are on the whole "very good".

    +1

He isn't being ungrateful, he just wants to use the gift to ensure the person giving it has the best value for their money. It may be slightly misguided to do this though as I am sure they just want you to get something with it. That said it might be worth hanging on to the voucher until Wiggle has something you want at a competetive price as they surely will at some point. I've not used any of the online retailers extensively but my impression of Wiggle is that their prices may not be the best but you are paying for their service which a lot of people rave about.

    This.

Just because Wiggle are more expensive for some items doesn't make 'em intrinsically rubbish or expensive.

It's a highly competitive consumer market out there.

There is generally little or no reward for loyalty in the online world (although Wiggle do have their Gold & Platinum discounts)

    Always shop around.

It's also worth using a cashback site to claw back a bit of your spend.
I've 'earnt' over £100 in the last 6 months just from bike stuff.

I`m no Wiggle fan boy but the prices he quotes are wrong, particularly re. the Arione, so his argument falls down somewhat. I would advise anyone to get chains and cassettes elsewhere as they are much cheaper.

Where does he say he can't afford it? He has put up several items that he can find cheaper (substantially so in some cases) elsewhere. I'm in no position to dispute his prices but if they are true then Wiggle is relatively expensive on those items. I think the post has everything to do with Wiggle as he has a Wiggle voucher and is comparing their prices so why do you think it doesn't?

I can dispute. Fizik Arione at JE JAMES is £78.29 and they have zero stock of the 2010 version. At Wiggle it is £84.54 before any discounts, so that's £79.54 max and they have plenty of stock.
