Just had my cassette replaced at on my Carrera Vulcan (08)

The shop have given me back my old 8spd cassette and its in many bits, however there's only 1 pin

1) Is there usually only 1pin to hold it together?
2) Can anyone identify the cassette?
3) How do the pieces fit together?

The reason I ask is that I am looking to sell it

Many Thanks :)

  • there was only 1 pin on my sram 950 cassette so i wouldnt worry,
  • Unless it was almost new when taken off it's not worth much. Buying a used cassette is a risk because if one cog is worn, a new chain will skip on that gear, making it useless.

If you are dedicated you can build up your own cassette from a collection of better cogs but most people don't bother.

The pin is just to hold the individual cogs together for convenience You don't really need it.

Fitting it together depends on the cassette. If the cogs are flat then there will be a spacer between each one. Often it's a mixture of flat cogs and cogs with a built in 'spacer'. Just make sure there is an equal gap between each one! The last (smallest) cog is designed to fit with the lockring and should be the odd one out.
