Firstly any thoughts on the bike / brand generally?

I will be riding 60-70% XC and the rest at Sherwood pines / Cannock

I currently ride a rockhopper comp

A bit of advice please.

Decent bikes. Good quality. Great specs

Perfect for XC & trail centre riding

Love my AMS100 Pro, it's awesome!

Go sling a leg over one and see how it fits you

  • Couldn't agree more, they are under-rated but very good value for money, I was mightily impressed with how my cube ams 125 felt when trying it compared to the Trek ex6/Lappiere 214 etc.

Most of my riding is XC and the bike is perfect, infact the only thing I've done since buying mine earlier this year is ride and enjoy it :D
  • Excellent bikes. Once ridden youll love them forever. I really cant recommend them enough, you never hear of the frames breaking, really well equipped, stunning to look at and very exclusive.

    nuff said :D
  • Pretty much what everyone else has said. Love my 100.

Definitely give one a try though, not everyone will get on with them as well as others. There's quite a few dealers around, go give one a blast and see what you think.
It takes as much courage to have tried and failed as it does to have tried and succeeded.

    There's one for you :)

Not that it stopped me buying another, the service I got when mine broke was very good.

I've seen a LTD Team go just below the seatclamp and a Stereo on the chainstay pivot (this one was abused though). Cracking service by Cube, they replace the LTD frame and the back end of the Stereo
  • recently bought a 2011 AMS Comp - and it's a fuuuuuucking beauty

well impressed with the spec for the money - a beautiful ride with looks to die for

  • I bought a cube AMS pro 100 back in March and I love it!! It has done me well this year and has been to some pretty hard wearing venues this year.

I am in oxoford so my usual riding is Xc, But i have also been to Whinlatter twice, Cannock twice, brecon twice, Lakes 4 times and the bike is used on a daily basis. So far it has taken everything i have thrown at it, the only issue i had was with teh rockshox fork but this was sorted by fisher for me.

All in all, CUBE bikes are brilliant value for money....

Hey Mat,,,, Do you feel the AMS 125 is just as good as the fuel ex and zesty? I'm torn between an EX8/9 a Zesty 314/514 or one of the AMS125s that CRC have on offer...

Does the geometry of the AMS let it feel like you've got the 130/140 mm of travel?

the zesty would be the better bike out of them as long as your not heavy as heavy rider would destroy zesty frame in no time.

The Zesty felt much lighter and more nimble (and the brakes were awesome) however it just felt too light and tight especially when I've always had base model hardtails and I just couldn't get my head around the lightness can also mean strong.
The Trek felt very soft in comparison to the Zesty and felt more relaxed to ride, the Cube feels in-between the Zesty and the Trek, its a nice comfortable/relaxing ride yet feels lighter than the Trek but more robust than the Zesty (all in my mind I'm sure).
I've not ridden a proper downhill course but have been out a few times with friends who ride a mixture of Spicy's and Ibis bikes and their all supprised how an overweight/unhealthy guy like me can ride the same trails as them and still keep up on the downhill sections.
I tend to ride with my front fork set between 125mm-135mm depending on the style of riding and never have any problems, the rear fox rp32 is just set to pro pedal 1 for trail work and flick the lever to off for the downhill bits

The bike is overkill for the riding I will do but I dont regret my choice. Try and get somewhere where they have them all in and you can try them out in the same surroundings, I did and while it was frustrating it was well worth the wait.
