I have a website which I host with plusnet. I put all the files (index.htm, contactus.htm etc) that I create in a folder called 'HTDOCS' which is what pops up when you FTP into the plusnet hosting server.

I want to be able to host a PDF and a picture on the site but when I just drag and drop the 2 files into HTDOCS then try to access them via http://www.mysite.com/pic.jpg or name.pdf it cannot find them?

any ideas why not ? plusnets help woefull ...(non existant)

  • Bonjour, one problem I faced with jpegs and flash files was their size. If the image is too wide for a default browser it wont load. Try loading a smaller jpeg and see if that works. Try flushing the cache too to reload a new version of the images etc, oh an do check the spelling of jpeg/jpg.

Can you see the files on the remote server? Also, what error do you get when you try and view them? 404, 500?

I also have plus net hosting (they're my ISP) and I tried uploading a pdf and jpg to my account and could access them both no problem.

Maybe try making sure the filenames aren't too long. And make sure they were uploaded in binary mode, iirc that can cause images not to display.

You could also try plusnet's forums for help (http://community.plus.net/forum/). They are better than the actual help files which do seem to have most of the information you need just impossible to find.
