I ordered a new winter coat on Tuesday afternoon and it arrived yesterday. I was absolutely amazed, I was expecting it to turn up around summer...

Yup - which just shows it can be done by some companies and not by others. I've had the same experience - City Link seemingly the "best" and Parcel Farce not even in the race.

I get the impression Parcel Force has just written off a load of parcels posted in the bad weather and took a decision to deal with the new business coming in and sort out the backlog after Christmas - much of which has probably already been officially declared lost and refunded now anyway.

I had an email from them yesterday in response to my asking them a week ago where my parcel is apologising and saying hopefully it is now delivered - it's a trackable service shouldn't they know that ? As it happens I've assumed it's lost and got a refund off the sender who have agreed to pursue Parcelforce for the money - as I did for the parcel this one replaced because they lost that one too. How they can lose two parcels 5'x2'x1' I don't know.

it's a hard life if you don't weaken.

I ordered a couple of christmas presents from Amazon on 30th November. Apparently disappeared into the black hole that is Royal Mail on 4th December. Never seen again. Organised a refund and had to go proper shopping instead. No use to me if they arrive after christmas

I get the distinct impression that stuff held up by the first lot of snow is still sitting somewhere, while more recent orders are being delivered more or less on time.

Royal Mail are criminally incompetent and the sooner someone takes their monopoly away the better. I've been waiting since the beginning of November for a delivery from Canada - they've sent another since but my single-speed cross build looks like it'll be next year for it to be finished. My wife ordered a Kindle from Amazon early last week - a week later it's still not here despite being on expedited delivery. The numbties at Amazon didn't send it tracked, so expect someone postie's got it tucked under a tree already. A few weeks ago, I had a number of deliveries 'go missing' - it was only when I raised a complaint with Royal Mail did the packages mysteriously appear more than 2 weeks later.

Amazon use city link, not the RM, at least they don't in S Wales.

Today I went to shop to buy a track bike, whilst Wiggle are excellent, at the end of the day it relies on couriers and internet. My TT bike has developed a crack and has to be returned (by guess who....). I have concluded that the few quid you might save online with such a big purchase is totally outweighed with the hassle that follows when things inevitably sometimes go wrong. Ironically, I got a much much better deal than any on line retailer!

    +1
Order my stuff from the LBS. A lot, lot easier.

Ordered loads of stuff lately including some winter tyres from Germany. Everything (including the Ribble order I put in on Sunday which arrived on Wednesday) has turned up in less than 5 working days irrespective of whether it has been Royal Mail, Parcel Force or other couriers.
    Faster than a tent.......
  • I have just returned from trying to deliver some parcels for a well known parcel delivery company (not R.M.) and unfortunately had to take almost all of them due to the properties not being accessible due to ice and snow. I was able to deliver a few parcels by trekkiing the the snow on foot for some considerable distance..

I felt very guilty and not happy at all at having to take most of my allocated parcels back to the depot as I presume some of them must have been Christmas presents. However the alternative would have been me and the van trapped in a distant village on Christmas Eve while everyone else is tucked up snugly at home. These village properties I attempted are definitely not accessible at the moment.

However, while I am talking about parcel deliveries, since starting this temporary work, I have been absolutely amazed at how many properties do not numbers or house names on their walls, gates or wherever. People seem to spend a fortune buying a house and then can't be bothered to spend £10 on some numbers. Incredible.

Sometimes I think these people are lucky to receive their goods at all. So there!
