always fancied a snow/sand bike......and after looking into buying one this summer, i noticed that salsa were doing a alu framed bike that looked the part, and had great feedback from testers.

i stuck an order in september, and got the bike last week, one of just 3 i know if in the UK....all ordered from the same shop.

a very small batch released to US dealers, this december so not something you will see much of.

the main thing that you will notice, is the huge wheels/rims.......80mm rims wearing 3.8 tires for flotation.

compared to a normal MTB wheel........

finished the build tonight, and had a quick ride around in -8 temp and 8'' of fresh snow!

what a laugh, cant wait to get out for a long test ride.

Nice one, looks the mutts, should be a treat to ride on the snow.

You have to love the 'No Step' sticker on top of the front mech, just incase you feel you have to put your foot on it to throw your other leg over :lol:

Would like to know how it rides, keep us updated. :)

    8) it's fun alright!

had a great time playing around the local park today, just me, my labrador retriever and the snow bike!

no slipping, awesome on the snowy paths and fields.

the tires soak up the hard ice really well, its like having full suspension.

I would have some short travel society forks maybe? as sand can be quite hard on landings.

You wouldn't find anything with enough room for the mahoosive tyres.
  • lefty with a madly dished, offset drilled front rim?
  • What pressure you running at Salty?

I found about 8psi was perfect for last nights ride out.

20psi at the moment, as the snow is not very deep in newcastle.

  • your bikes just get better by the purchase, i love my ala carte and this was what i was looking at! the mukluk is one machine, its like the monster truck version to my salsa how jelous?!?!?!

a few mile ride into gateshead myself is in order to spot you now! very very good purchase!
  • I like that a lot and will also keep my eyes peeled although I'm a little further south.

Does this mean there are 3 Mukluks around Newcastle if they've all been bought from the same shop - which shop BTW ?

I'm looking at a Sandman frame for the New year but am having fun on my 1/2 fat - no decent snow pic yet!

  • I did wonder as no-one seems to be able to get stock until spring at the earliest - should have guessed really

I've seen pics of one of the others and very nice it is too and good to see an alternative to the Pugsley.
