pendle predator cycle challenge - definitely.. such a stunning course!!
  • Messrs Merckx, Hinault, Indurain, Thevenet, Delgado & Walkowiak are all scheduled to participate. Not sure that (at aged, 83) Monsieur Walkowiak will ride all 130km, but you never know....

Mr Merckx was at his imperious best on Sunday at his own sportive in Somerset (see blog below), keen to know how the above got on up some real hills....

  • The Brighton to Brighton Cyclosportive on the 8th October 2011

This is a must do ride, run by SRS Events
    See their website http://www.srs-events.cc/event7/event-details.htm

    A choice of 4 routes

    Classic Route 100 miles
    Challenge Route 70 miles
    Tour Route 52 miles
    The Heart Ride 32 miles

The event starts and finishes on Madeira Drive which is pretty iconic for a lot of sporting events. But more importantly the routes are amazing and especially testing ideal as an end of season event.

All the routes go up Ditchling Beacon and Coombe road in Brighton.

Really honestly have a look at the SRS Events website above.

The event is raising funds for the Sussex Heart Charity with easy online fund raising ways to raise funds for the charity although nobody is forced to raise funds.

Hard to ignore the etape of course. Can highly recommend either that or the Marmotte for the experience. Some other European ones I have always fancied: Quebrantahuesos, Ariegoise, Maratonna dles Dolomites but not yet tried.

At home the Dragon is a bit of a must-do, despite organizational problems. Early season, Forest of Dean is good. Late season Southern Sportive. Also excellent Midland Cicle Classic route with off-roady bits. The Tour of the Corn Fields also looks good on a similar theme, although I haven't done it - I can see a few more 'cross type sportives being popular, so would appreciate a report on those.

Night Rides! They've been done a bit in C+ but the Exmouth Exodus is great if you've not tried this sort of thing. And of course there are lots of audaxes that take you through the night. I have yet to find an audax route that isn't pretty good and there are some epic ones - I take my hat off to all those who have done the Bryan Chapman and of course PBP (not me).

Anyone thinking of doing a very small ride - but with cheering crowds and a beer tent - should head to Frome for the Cobble Wobble - almost the most fun you can have in 30s!
I\'m sure I had one of those here somewhere

  • Just noticed that the White Rose Classic is back on the calendar for June 17th - surely should be on the shortlist? http://www.ilkleycyclingclub.org.uk/ind ... se-Classic

A great route. I rode it two or three times and it really deserves the epithet 'Classic'.
I'm booked to do 'Le Terrier around the same time, which is one of the best unsung events on the calendar. http://www.le-terrier.co.uk/
My review of last year's wet and windy event is here:

  • These 2 are tough and I'd love to read a report on them in C+ and hear how they compare to the beasty.

Two good, long, Scottish events, on quiet-ish roads. Great scenery, and hilly.
