buying a mountain bike for my son this xmas, have narrowed my search to either a Giant Rincon at £230 or a Trek 3500 at £225, the spec's look quite similar but i'm no expert so any advice would be gratefully received.

Ive had the Rincon for a couple of years now. Great for the price. Only thing I have replaced is the tyres and the forks. (I only changed the forks because i got hol dof some reba race for £120 on sale last year)0

My first MTB was a Rincon, not sparkling but a worthy enough steed (if a little 'big boned').
At that price another couple of option

My Daughters first MTB was the V-brake version of this

She did about 1000miles on this including commuter to school duties, its now being retired (rebuilt back to original spec and sold) as she has better bikes, but it to is good VFM.
Or for a little less and staying with V-s

got an old trek 3500 and although the fork is very basic it's nice enough to ride
wouldn't do anything too gnarly on it thoughWhether you're a king or a little street sweeper, sooner or later you'll dance with the reaper.
