Anyone tried:

Ski on the front, fat tyre (low pressure) on the rear?
Ski front and back.

Looking for "what not to do's"

    Is this a joke?
  • I don't care if its a joke :D I'd say ski on the front and fat tyre with low pressure at the back lol

Yeah, I suppose it is light hearted. But I'm still doing it.

    Is that not acceptable?

Only checking. Is there any way to actually mount a ski on the front?

We ride bikes, there is a shedload of snow outside and it isn't a huge leap of faith to add one to the other.

I think Darwin would approve...and I am sure Jesus would want it that way too. (should he feel like popping out for a ride, or slide, or a sliride (made up word))

Not sure how to mount it quite frankly at the moment, but I think I know the SKI>Bracket bit.

The latest mbuk has a bmx with skis front and rear, and there was that bike with the ski up front and tracks at the back doing the rounds a while back.
Rock Lobster 853, Trek 1200 and a very old, tired and loved Apollo Javelin.
  • Just being skiing for a week and saw a couple of ski bikes hitting the slopes! Although think they use blades as opposed to skis (they are just really short, agile versions of skis). Just as a heads up though, unless you are bombing it straight down the slope, there is little similarity to a normal bike and normal bike control.

That's positive news as I don't control my bikes in any conventional manner too. :)

You were absolutely right. Straight down a hill and it is a bike. As soon as you want to turn it becomes a skiing thing...throwing ur back end out all the time. Front has little effect compared to the carving action of the ski edges on the rear.

Did this one with a Scott hardtail and it was smooth. I expected it to be harsh but it wasn't. Words such as "edge" "glide" "bite" and "put car polish on the bottom of the skis while the mrs isn't watching" are all now in my vocabulary. :)

i tried this once with domestic cats instead of skis, both inflated to a low pressure.

turns out they don't like snow

yep works great, block of wood to replace a hub with threaded bar through that for the axle
