have a BMW X3 Sports 2004 model and have been carrying my bike on the roof racks but with new bike the frame is just too chunky to be secure and would prefer to carry on the back so can have better access to car parks etc.

Bit of a mind field with the best tow bars & cycle carriers and wondering if anyone who has a 4x4 (Without a rear wheel on back) could give recommendations as to what they use and perhaps if any locals to Surrey/Sussex on a reliable fitter or seller - Otherwise will be looking at internet. Have looked at Wiiter/ Thule etc

My other question is about rear parking sensors - I have a button where I can manually switch off the sensors but what are people's experience with the two bars and carriers in respect to these. Would ideally not have to keep taking off tow bar and carrier - Although will be going for detachable tow ball so have that option.

Hope some of that makes sense and would appreciate any ideas. :D

Thule Euroclassic is about as good as it gets on towbar mounted racks
As for towbars it depends on what else you'll be using it for and if you want a detachable one so the car looks better when not in use. If you give Towequipe a call they will advise you of whats best. Most dealer fitted towbars for german cars tend to Westfalia supplied and rebranded by the car manufacturer.
The reverse sensors will pickup the rack on the bike and buzz continous unless you switch them off whilst it's fitted. Some plugin modules do this automatically when you connect something to the electrics on the towbar.
If you can get to Towequipe at Nuneaton they give a great service and much cheaper than most. They charged me £210 fitted for my Westfalia detachable fitted with a choice of electics everywhere else were wanting £350 plus which made the 3 hours round trip worth it for me. They will also supply the bike rack too.
You will have a choice of 7or 13 pin electrics and it's worth going for the newer 13 pin now as most new towing electrics are 13 pin too as is Thule products which means you don't need an adapter to connect them. If you do get something that is the older 7 pin then you can adapeer to use them for about £10.
