Favourite Musical

As we know there are some very knowlegable and musically diverse people on here and watching the Royal Variety Performance of Les Mis last night I was just wondering what people's favourite musical is (film or stage). Mine is Les Mis by a mile, have watched it more times than I can remember and never seen a bad performance. I also think Blood Brothers is superb. Film wise I'd go for Chicago - even hamster face couldn't spoil it.

Not sure how serious you are being but as a stage version I enjoyed it.0

Rocky horror Picture Show, love the film and saw a very good stage version at the Marlowe in Canterbury with lots of hecking, very funny.0
-
Completely agree with you on Les Mis, although I've only seen it once live on stage.0

Film wise?
Singing in the Rain,Oliver are good but really anything from that golden era of Hollywood. Corny but they were feelgood films with some stupendous scoresM.Rushton0 -

Film - West Side Story
I just love it. I even have the soundtrack on my iPod.
TV - Fame
Not often repeated on tv but you can buy the first season DVD box set.
Stage - Return to the forbidden planet
Amazing music and gives me goose bumps throughout.0 -
I'm not really a fan of musicals but for some reason one of my favourite films is Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. I've even been to see the stage version and loved it.If suffer we must, let's suffer on the heights. (Victor Hugo).0

The King and I or South Pacific0

Hi,
Although sinister in parts, my favourite is Cabaret0 -
I hate musicals, except for Bugsy Malone which I loved as a kid and still sing along to now. My name is Tallulah.................. :P0

To me, this question is akin to asking "what is your favourite form of dental treatment?"
sorry
(unless, of course, you would classify the Blues Brothers as a musical, in which case, there is my answer!)0 -
Absolutely has to be Paint Your Wagon
Not a musical, more of a western with songs
Highlights- Lee Marvin "singing" Wandrin Star
And the spectacular Harve Presnell singing " They call the wind Maria"

I have nothing against musicals, but I just find my "suspension of disbelief" impossible to sustain when, in the middle of some dramatic scene, everyone suddenly bursts into song & dance.
I'm aware that this is inconsistent, as I can sit through quite a lot of implausible crap believing every word in other genres; it might also be linked to my taste in music, which explains why I, like Pneumatic, would make an exception for the Blues Brothers.0 -

However, someone who did this quite brilliantly was the late great Dennis Potter. Pennies from Heaven and The Singing Detective were very powerful TV dramas in their day.
Mind you, it took him years to persuade the BBC to let him try out the format.0 -
I did a few musicals when I was in high school so have a small appreciation for them.
2 fav stage versions (have seen both several times in different countries):
Chicago and Les Mis
2 fav film versions (something different):
Little Shop of Horrors and The Wiz0 -
Theatre - The Producers
Film - Er... Dancer in the Dark for it's nice uplifting message0 -
A Slice of Saturday Night.

Blues Brothers is pretty much the only one I can watch.0

Not a fan of musicals generally but I do like West Side Story and Cabaret and also Chicago since I took my daughter to see it, some fantastic outfits worn by the dancers0
-
Disapointed by the lack of love for the Poppins.
The best musical I have ever performed in (*show off*) is Anyone Can Whistle.0 -
There is nothing to compare with The Rocky Horror Picture Show. The film is good - use this to learn some of the themes etc - and then get along to a stage show and get involved!
Brilliant controlled (sort of) chaos.

God - reading the names of the musicals in this thread is the visual equivalent of fingers being dragged down a blackboard. I'd rather be fed my own man-veg than watch a musical (and, TBH, I've quite surprised myself by how much I hate them....)ROAD < Scott Foil HMX Di2, Volagi Liscio Di2, Jamis Renegade Elite Di2, Cube Reaction Race > ROUGH0
