New Forks, Shorter Steerer Tube?

I'm looking at upgrading the Dart 1's on my bike for something a bit more useful and I've got my eye on a pair of secondhand forks on Ebay.
The steerer tube length on my current forks is 220mm and the ones I'm looking at are 200mm. Both my current ones and the new ones are 100mm travel.
Would the steerer tube length make a massive difference to the way the bike rides?

Well if it will fit your current set up. it will mean removing 20mm of spacers (do you have that many fitted) with will lower the bars by 20mm (will your brake levers clear the toptube?
But the geometry will stay the same (presuming the Axle to crown height is the same, which is not likely)."Do not follow where the path may lead, Go instead where there is no path, and Leave a Trail."

I was looking at some Rockshox Reba's or SID's on Ebay.0 -
The steerer tube needs to be long enough (at least as long as the headtube, headset and stem) or the forks won't fit.I don't do smileys.

What is the total length of the spacers between the stem and the headset currently? If you have more than 20mm like nicklouse says it will likely fit.0
